Sustainable Campus Event drew crowds to A Grid

In the spirit of Earth Hour, the Sustainable Campus team organized the Sustainable Campus event on March 24, 2022 at A Grid. The theme of the event this time was natural biodiversity and the dialogue between man and nature.

The Sustainable Campus event, which has already become a tradition, was held on March 24, 2022 in A Grid. The Campus Sustainability team organizes similar events twice a year, this time with the theme of natural biodiversity and the dialogue between man and nature. A large number of members of Aalto community interested in sustainable development attended the event.

The keynote speakers were Elisa Lähde (Assistant Professor, Aalto University) and Mika Kajava (Postdoctoral Researcher, Aalto University). The aim was to raise a discussion about our consumption habits and sustainable development measures both at Aalto as a whole and at every personal level. Among other things, there was an interesting debate about how we could treat the surrounding nature better, because we get so much benefit from nature, and also about the impact of various exceptional situations on consumption behavior in general.

Tuomo Uusitalo from ACRE presented the latest news about the Carbon Neutral Aalto 2030 project.

The event also sparked a debate on social sustainability and well-being. The event was held at campus with the goal of improving the sense of community after a long period of remote work. The closing speech was given by Anna Poutianen from the Aalto chaplains, bringing hope for the future. The event was closed in the light of candles to remind of the upcoming Earth Hour.

Next Saturday 27.3. the campus will turn off the lights on four buildings as a light signal for the planet. We also encourage the entire Aalto community to spend Earth Hour.
