Vote for the best idea! How do we spend 14 000 euros on student wellbeing?
At the start of the 2024 academic year, Aalto University students were asked how they would like to use 14 000 euros from the university's budget to develop campus with the theme of wellbeing on the campus. The idea was based on the "one euro for every student" participatory budgeting project, organised annually at the university since 2021. The aim is to strengthen student wellbeing and develop the campus by involving students in decision-making.
This year, a very high number of ideas were received - almost 100. "It has been great to see how students have taken ownership of the project and every year we have received more and more good suggestions. This year again, all ideas were carefully considered. Those ideas that did not fit into the scope of this project were forwarded to the relevant authorities," says Minna Mäkitalo, Specialist, Policy and Foresight.
The project organisers (representatives from Aalto University, ACRE and Aalto University Student Union) selected four proposals for voting. The shortlisted proposals fulfilled the main criteria of the brainstorming process, i.e. promotion of student wellbeing, inclusiveness, accessibility, sustainability, budget framework and implementation schedule.

Vote for the best idea by 30.11.2024!
Now is the time to vote for the shortlisted ideas to be implemented on campus during spring 2025. Vote for the best idea using this voting form.
The winner will be announced in early 2025. You can see the proposals to vote for below.
Exercise equipment gets students active, refreshes the mind and makes the campus more enjoyable. Physical activity increases student well-being and it is a fun way to spend time outdoors during the day.
Weatherproof outdoor chess boards and chess pieces are a fun way to enjoy the outdoors between and after lectures. Outdoor chess boards also enliven the outdoor spaces on campus and improve community spirit.
Outdoor ping pong tables can be spontaneous meeting places where you can meet other students from different schools and year groups. Ping pong is an activity that is easy to adopt and at the same time the campus would be revitalised.
Being tired can have a big impact on the learning process. Massage chairs offer students the opportunity to rest and relax while studying. The project can provide around 3-4 chairs.
