Otaniemi recycling center awarded for exemplary promotion of sustainable development

The award was granted by Aalto University Campus & Real Estate and Aalto University’s joint sustainable development team, influenced by the initiative and innovativeness of the recycling center.

Aalto University Campus & Real Estate and Aalto University’s joint sustainable development team granted a ” Sustainable development champion” recognition to Otaniemi recycling center for their significant promotion of circular economy. The diploma was received on November 26th 2018 by the volunteers Annika Rantala and Johan Strandman from the recycling center.

“The operation of the recycling center is exemplary and innovative. The operation of the Otaniemi recycling center contributes to the goals of sustainable development on the campus and promoting responsible growth to Aalto students, ”says Meri Löyttyniemi, Specialist for Sustainable Development of Aalto University Research and Innovation Services.

Otaniemi recycling center started their operation about ten years ago and has operated jointly through many associations. At the moment, the recycling center operates on the premises of the Aalto University Student Union by volunteers. The activity is based on the principle that anyone can take and donate goods that are in good condition free of charge. For example, there are “Survival Kit” packages, including pans, pots, cups and cutlery for students and exchange students who are planning to move to their own apartment.
