The green area in the Korkeakoulu square, the hub between the Undergraduate Centre, the Learning Centre and A Bloc, will be modified and improved during this summer. The short stems of the old linden trees will be left standing to create new shoots, and a decayed wood artwork will be built next to them from stems cut in the location. The greenery that increases biodiversity in the campus area, also diversifies plant life in the area and makes a contrast with the urban environment in front of A Bloc will be planted around trees in the green area.

MASU Planning Oy has designed the area in cooperation with ACRE. “Plant styles and species from various eras will come together in the area. Plants facing the Aino square have taken inspiration from the cultural plants and biodiversity of a historic manor environment. They will then change to the simpler plants and look of the 1950s and 1960s, as well as an open and freely usable grass area that is characteristic to the campus area, when walking towards the Amfi square,” says Malin Blomqvist, landscape architect MDL/MARK.

Five-week earthworks will commence at the end of June. Some greenery will also be planted during the autumn of 2022. The site will be fenced, and pedestrian traffic will be guided safely past the area.
