The Green Office team promote sustainability on campus

Aalto University Campus & Real Estate has belonged to WWF’s Green Office network since 2012. With Green Office, we are committed to continuously improving and developing environmental matters.

We have our own Green Office team, which meets approximately five times a year. There are eight employees in the team. We strengthen the work community’s environmental awareness and commitment through communication and common activities. We ensure that the work community is familiar with the Green Office practices, and we encourage the personnel to make sustainable choices. Our themes include sustainable commuting, healthy lifestyle and reducing consumption. Everyone is responsible for the environment, and even small things matter.

The Green Office team monitors the progress related to the themes and objectives. With WWF’s environmental management system, we measure printing and water and energy consumption. We also promote heathy lifestyles through exercising and dietary choices. Using the Climate Calculator, we can measure our carbon footprint accurately, which helps us to find new environmentally friendly alternatives.

We have had training sessions and recycling events for our personnel in the spirit of Green Office. We have also taken part in the Kilometrikisa competition for cyclists in several consecutive years. This way we can encourage our employees to exercise and reduce transport emissions by cycling. We also want to encourage our employees and the whole Aalto University community to have vegetarian days and to add vegetables to their weekly diets. Luckily, it is easy to be a vegetarian in Otaniemi thanks to its numerous restaurants with vegetarian options!
