Jokeri Light Rail construction on Otaniementie to continue in week 21

The construction of the light rail will continue on Otaniementie in May 2020 with the removal of topsoil and tree stumps.

In addition to building the light rail, all of the road structures are going to be renewed, including pedestrian and cycling routes. Road construction will also require plenty of municipal engineering cabling and pipework to be transferred and replaced as well as soil improvement before the street and rail structures can be put into place.

The construction work is going to cause some changes to be made to driving lanes and speeds as well as pedestrian and cycling routes. Motor vehicles will, however, be able to drive along Otaniementie at all times. At least one side of the road will remain open to pedestrian and cycling traffic throughout the works. All changes will be communicated near the construction site and on the Jokeri Light Rail website.

The construction work also contains some phases that cause noise. On Otaniementie, these phases include piling and pile-driving, which is necessary due to the soft soil. We will also have to perform some excavation work on Otaniementie. We will be notifying local residents of any especially noisy work in advance. According to current information, the noisiest phases will be carried out in summer 2020.

We work mainly between 7 am and 6 pm on weekdays. We may perform some less noisy work in the evenings between 6 and 10 pm, at weekends and on mid-week holidays.
