Summer employee takes part in campus development

Alex Salminen spent the summer working for the Business Development and Sustainability team of Aalto University Campus & Real Estate (ACRE). Alex participated in the development of digital campus solutions and a sustainable campus. He was asked to research ways to develop the involvement of the community and stakeholders in campus development and design.
‘I enjoyed ACRE’s laid-back atmosphere and the opportunity to work independently. Learning the ropes of the job was easy, thanks to ACRE’s well-defined processes and efficient onboarding. Over the summer, my project-based job description allowed me to learn personal project management skills and get to know new tools and ways of working. My summer job also helped me learn to grasp and manage large-scale projects,’ says Alex.

ACRE offers students summer jobs where they get to work on interesting and challenging tasks with the support of our experts. We want to give students an opportunity to be part of a highly skilled and supportive work community and participate in the development of our activities.
‘The best features of the Aalto University campus are the beautiful and integrated campus environment, its proximity to nature and the excellent connections to all parts the capital region. From the viewpoint of a student, there is still room for development for example in the availability facilities, as a wider range of facilities should be made available for students. The capacity of campus restaurants should also be increased when we will gradually return to studying and working on campus. All in all, working for ACRE was a positive experience. I got to take a peek behind the scenes, so to speak, and see the scope of ACRE’s work,’ Alex says.
