Take it or leave it - a recycling event open to all

Each of us can be part of an important change towards a more sustainable future. Did you know that approximately 70,000 tons of clothing and textiles are consumed annually in Finland.

A recycling point open to everyone is available in the main lobby of the Undergraduate Centre (Otakaari 1) throughout the week of March 18th to March 22nd, 2023, during the building's opening hours. By bringing our own used textiles, accessories, books, and small items for recycling, we take a concrete step towards a more sustainable future.

Take it or leave it!

A recycling point open to everyone is available in the main lobby of the Undergraduate Centre (Otakaari 1) throughout the week of March 18th to March 22nd, 2023, during the building's opening hours. By bringing our own used textiles, accessories, books, and small items for recycling, we take a concrete step towards a more sustainable future.

If you have textiles that have reached the end of their lifecycle or are otherwise suitable for recycling, you can place them in a separate trolly. However, please note that we do not accept moldy or damp textiles. Small stains are not a problem. Textiles for disposal should ideally be packed in plastic bags

Batteries, phones and electronics?

Used lithium batteries and batteries have their own recycling box.  Do not bring electronics, other electrically powered goods or lead batteries to the recycling point. 

Now you have the opportunity to bring your old or broken phone to the recycling point for safe and easy recycling. There is a dedicated recycling box for phones. Aalto phones should not be recycled at the recycling point. Aalto employee phones are always returned to IT Service Desk.

At the end of the event, all remaining textiles and items will be transferred to the Recycling Center (in Finnish), which will handle their sale or other forms of recycling.

The recycling event is an event organized by the Aalto Campus Sustainability Team during the international Earth Hour week (link in Finnish), which emphasizes the future and sustainability of the entire planet.
